On Tuesday May 15th, Banbury Stamp Society held its Annual General Meeting followed by members displaying ‘anything other than philately’.
The Society reports showed that we are keeping our membership numbers steady, but as always, need to encourage anyone who has an interest in stamps or postal history to give us a try. The club hosted the Banbury Festival of Stamps at BGN School back in October 2017 and this was deemed to be a success for the stamp dealers who visited as well as the regional societies who came along for meetings. The event also provided the club with some additional income which will be used for promotion. The 2018-2019 programme was presented and will be on the society web site later this summer.
After the formal proceedings, we had presentations on ‘anything but stamps’ which included a short stand-up comedy set, some World War 2 newspapers including one announcing the sinking of the Ark Royal; Commemorative medals produced by Spink for the 1890 Penny Post Jubilee; maps and books including an 18th Century gazeteer of the world and finally a selection of books that were described as collecting by the owner, but hoarding by others.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday September 18th at 7:30pm at Hanwell Fields Community Centre. The Banbury Stamp Society is on-line at ‘www.banburystampsociety.co.uk’, or contact John Davies on 01295 255831.
