On Tuesday 3rd October the Society welcomed Barry Stagg who gave a presentation and thematic display on “Parachutes”.
Barry is Chairman of the British Thematic Association and his display has won international awards so was very much looked forward to by the attending members. His display contained both stamps and postcards and covered many aspects of the theme including Experimental Parachuting, Parachuting as an entertainment, Training Parachutists, Making a Parachute, the introduction by Germany of Fallschirmjager (Paratroopers), Mail supplies by Parachute, Heroes, Villains and Precision Parachuting. In addition, he also covered the relatively new sports that are offshoots of Parachuting including Hang-Gliding and Paragliding.
Barry has exhibited his collection both in this country and abroad, winning many top prizes and the members and visitors were treated to a talk of exceptional quality in terms of both interest and material.
